Our standards, developed in collaboration with working clinicians, are designed to improve and maintain the standards of healthcare in Africa. We do this by measuring the current situation in facilities against the requirements of the COHSASA standards. We then provide quality improvement training programmes and guidance to help facility teams implement the standards and work towards full compliance in all their services.

We know that many healthcare facilities in low- to middle-income countries have many challenges and start from a low base when entering the programme. The standards provide a blueprint for good practice and enable facility teams to work towards compliance at their own pace. COHSASA has a graded recognition system that offers credit and certification for the achievement of agreed milestones. This enables the facility team to start to embed a culture of quality as they journey towards full accreditation.
