The South African-based NPO, COHSASA (The Council for Health Service Accreditation of Southern Africa) has received global recognition for its programmes to improve quality and safety in healthcare institutions.
The accreditation of COHSASA as an organisation has been conferred by the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua) from January 2015 to December 2018.
This is the fourth consecutive international ISQua accreditation award for COHSASA and carries with it an endorsement that the Council has been judged to be a fully competent, ethical, high-standards organisation that can provide the highest possible international standard of quality improvement and accreditation programmes to a wide range of healthcare facilities.
In addition, ISQua has accredited both the latest version of the COHSASA Hospital Standards and its Surveyor Training Programme.
In the summary of its report on COHSASA hospital standards, ISQua notes: “This organisation is to be commended on the commitment to the accreditation process.
Interim CEO Jacqui Stewart welcomed news of COHSASA’s accreditation saying, “We are tremendously proud of achieving a fourth international accreditation award. It is testimony to the commitment to quality and great team work by all our staff. We want to use the standards and our knowledge to spread the message of quality and patient safety across Africa and assist more healthcare facilities to achieve accreditation.”
